Our research topic in the news: Dredging in Miami

So we may not have published the results of our dredging project for the world to see yet, but a story on dredging in another tropical area has made headlines this week. Scientists are rushing to remove corals in the Port of Miami before it is scheduled to be dredged. Besides wanting to salvage some of these disappearing organisms, the researchers in charge of this coral-saving mission plan on studying these corals, which are living in an industrial shipping lane, to shed light on what makes them so resilient and able to survive in an environment heavily manipulated by humans.

It is always fun to see the topic that you are studying pop up in the news, so it was cool when my dad sent me this article today whilst I was in the midst of trying to write a coherent paper about what we found in our own study of a dredge site.
